Guide

What drives the cost of a custom build.

The decisions that move a fabrication price, for fixtures, vitrines, sets and activations.

Size and quantity

Larger pieces need more material, more shop space and more crew to move and install. Repeated pieces cost less each once the first is drawn, programmed and approved.

Materials

Solid bronze, stone and low-iron glass cost more than steel, laminate and acrylic, and they take longer to source and finish. A sample of each option shows the difference before you decide.

Finish level

A high-gloss lacquer or a hand-applied patina takes more coats, more sanding and more time than a satin finish. Surfaces seen up close or on camera need more finishing than surfaces seen from a distance.

Engineering

Pieces that carry people, hang overhead, move, or must pass a venue or building review need engineering and sometimes stamped calculations.

Schedule

A compressed schedule means parallel shifts and expedited materials. Time saved before production, by signing drawings and samples early, saves money during it.

Install conditions

After-hours work, union venues, freight elevators, rigging and tight load-in windows all affect crew time on site.

Life after the event

Pieces built to tour, be stored or be redeployed need stronger joints, cases and crates than a one-night build.
